Friday June 8 Take Aways

Well.....
I have to say I really enjoyed haveng time to work in class on Thursday.
AND...WOO-HOO!!! We survived and made it to Friday!
I am excited about having Adobe Acrobat--so many things we can do!!! What a way to open up communication with parents.
Hilmer and I had a blast working on our Daily today! We learned quite a bit from our first session, and things seem to rum smoother this time around.
Huge thanks to Mary Wegner for instilling confidence in us!!!!
AND the rest of our teachers for being patient with us.
I am so excited to be a TTL (FINALLY!!!) and lead our school into the 21st century, and beyond!!!

June 6th--Dear TTL Diary

Today was a great day! I really enjoyed the Keynote speaker this morning. Dr. Alfred Tatum touched on something very important, something I strongly agree with: we have to know where our students/children are in their own lives in order to make their learning more meaningful. Technology is a phenomenal tool for educators to use in order to reach our students and meet their individual/specific learning needs.
I also truly enjoyed our workshop today on Inspiration. I loved the way it was presented--thanks Mary St. John! I am going to incorporate that into my unit for students to organize their thoughts/stories AND as a way to assess their knowledge.
The Daily's...well I have to say I absolutely love to see all the creativity that people have. Making them, however....different story. I did learn A LOT today---major take away: save video clips for highly advanced elementary student. My level of frustration was steadily rising until Mary Wegner saved us! Thanks!

**Well...I thought this posted last night. I must have clicked SAVE NOW instead of PUBLISH POST at 2 in the morning!
SORRY!!!!

Using Tehnology to Dig for Meaning

21st Century Skills....Authentic learning.....Higher order thinking skills....hyperlinked technology....
If we are going to reach our students in today's world we are going to have to teach within their learning realms. Technology is in our students' lives. They are motivated, engaged, and active in their learning when we use these tools in our teaching. I like the checklist of the 5 elements/criteria for TU. I especially enjoyed the samples that were provided to deepen my understanding. The phrase that sticks out most in my mind is "New technologies help students produce rather than simply CONSUME ideas..."

June 4th Take Aways

Wow! I love the clickers. I first became aware of this tool when I attended the NECC conference in Seattle 4 years ago. What a great tool to get student interaction--without pencil and paper. I came VERY close to winning a class set for our school! I am also envious of schools that have Smartboards. I am hopeful that ASD will provide all schools with at least one! I would love to have one in the library to use when I am teaching library information literacy skills.
I am still lost as to how we are going to pull the iMovie together...will we have class time to work on it?
I also hope I am not in a group that is too much below my tech skills. I was hoping to go further in the iMovie class today. I am going to have to "play" more with it and access Atomic Learning. I forgot the username and password!
